Healthy Cocktails I am still working on losing weight. At the moment, I am hovering right around 201 pounds. Not bad, considering I used to weigh 257. However, I am still stuck, and my trainer warned me about it. The only option to lose more weight is more cardio and less grand food. That would equate to less of the amazing fried mac and cheese that comes from Charleston Grill. I cheat every now and again. Well, no more cheat days here. From here on, I have been reporting for the past 15 weeks, I will not allow cheat days. If you see me and I look like I'm cheating, please say something. This week's healthy cocktail is a twist on the simple vodka soda. I have run across this great cranberry club soda with 0 calories at the Harris Teeter. Use that with a twist of lime. Champagne cocktails After such an overwhelming response to my hangover from last week, I was excited to see our readers share some very interesting cocktail choices to make with champagne. The first is called a "Goodnight Kiss." To make this, add 1 drop of bitters in your champagne, 1 sugar cube, a splash of campari and, of course, the champagne. The next option for a champagne cocktail is called the "Marilyn Monroe," which contains 1 shot of brandy and 1 splash of grenadine in the champagne. Finally, for a year-round delicious cocktail, add 3/4 of a shot of strawberry brandy, 3/4 of a shot of vodka, crushed ice and your champagne to make a "Strawberry Shortcake." We're always looking for great family recipes. If you have one, drop me a line at lroberts@postandcourier.com ALOFT sets off Last Thursday evening, a brand new hotel property, Aloft, threw a party. The hotel, at 4875 Tanger Outlet Blvd. in North Charleston, put on a benefit for Lowcountry Aids Services. Behind Bars' own Luke Wilson went there to check it out, and he was very satisfied. Look for more interesting events coming soon from this vision of the W hotel brands. O'Malley's Line up Changes O'Malley's Bar and Grille at 549 King St. is known for the younger college clientele. The bar is making additional line-up changes in its weekly schedule to even push harder for those crowds. Every day, they offer $2 PBRs and High Life Bottles, along with $2 Bud drafts. They also have a great entertainment lineup that is not just for the kids. To find out more, log onto www.myspace.com/omalleyscharleston. American Ale Debuts Pearlstine Distributors announced the debut of yet another Budweiser product, Budweiser American Ale. The new ale is supposed to offer consumers a citrus aroma before the very smooth finish. Ask bars around town to give it a try.
