Man, 23, arrested after chase

The Post and Courier
Sunday, June 29, 2008

A 23-year-old man is accused of leading police on a high-speed car chase from North Charleston to the peninsula early Saturday after fleeing from a traffic stop shortly before midnight, authorities said.

Gary Andrew Ford of Charleston is charged with assault with intent to kill and failure to stop for blue lights. He was being held at the Charleston County jail with his bail set at $30,000, according to court records.

North Charleston police gave the following account of the incident:

Members of the police bike team were patrolling the parking lot of Jamison Park Apartments on Greenridge Road when a silver Kia drove through the lot at a high rate of speed, then pulled over. When a bike officer went to speak with the driver, the man hit the gas and sped off, nearly striking the officer in the process.

Police pursued the Kia as it raced onto Interstate 26 and down Montague Avenue. The chase continued onto Interstate 526 and into West Ashley before the Kia raced down U.S. Highway 17 toward the peninsula.

North Charleston police discontinued their pursuit, but Charleston police cornered the Kia on Franklin Street around 12:35 a.m. North Charleston police responded and arrested Ford.

A passenger in the car was not charged.

This is the kind of guy who needs to get his face stomped in once he is caught.

You know, some people can step in crap and come out smelling like a rose and this Gary Andrew Ford character seems to fit that criteria.

This is a man who apparently feels the need to 'run' when there is a chance that he could be approached by law enforcement officials. (Read the other article in today's P&C, titled, "Family suffers as man's killing remains unsolved.")

The bond on this particular case is set way too low. Ford will bond out, be back on the streets and a menace to society. He will now have to hire a trial lawyer which comes at a hefty price. How will he come up with the money to defend himself ? By committing more crimes ?

What did Ford have to hide by taking the police on a high speed chase ? Did he not consider other motorists or pedestrians ? Does human life even matter to this man ?

I say throw this criminal in the pokey where he belongs and force him to tell the truth about what happened to Glover the night Glover was murdered. (NOTE : I never said Ford had anything to do with Glover's death although I do believe he knows something.)
