Steve Walsh
Florida authorities are saying little about their investigation into the sudden death of developer Steve Walsh, who was found dead Wednesday from a gunshot wound. Winter Park police said Friday that no new information on the case will be released until the investigation is completed. "We are not currently looking for any suspects at this time in this case," Sgt. Pam Marcum said. "The earliest that any further information will be released is sometime later next week." Walsh, 61, was the managing partner of Broad Street Partners, which formed in Charleston in 1994 and has offices in the Lowcountry, Florida and North Carolina. He was found dead at his Winter Park home after he failed to show for a meeting. Police recovered a long gun from the property. The Orlando Sentinel reported that police aren't sure whether Walsh was killed by an intruder or whether he killed himself with a shot to the chest. Broad Street Partners issued a statement Friday saying the company was "shocked and deeply saddened" by Walsh's sudden death. "He was a trusted colleague who did business with honesty and integrity," the statement read. "We will miss his strong leadership, sense of humor and gentle spirit every day." A funeral Mass for Walsh will be held at noon today in Winter Park. A second Mass will be held in the Charlotte area, but details are still pending. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Orlando Health Foundation (3160 Southgate Commerce Blvd., Suite 50, Orlando, FL 32806, or www.orlandohealth.com) to support the Level One Trauma Center.
