Young sailors invited to regatta The fourth annual Mount Pleasant Junior Regatta, open to youth sailors of all experience levels, is set for Aug. 23 at Hobcaw Yacht Club. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Town of Mount Pleasant and the Hobcaw Yacht Club, is taking registration for sailors 18 and younger. Event organizer Tina Carter encourages sailors of varying experience levels to consider signing up for the regatta. "This regatta encourages participation from youth who have little racing experience but basic boat-handling skills," she said. "This is a great experience for new sailors to get out on the water and compete in an environment that's fun and lighthearted." Participants do not need to own a boat to enter and may contact Carter in advance of the event to arrange to use a boat for the competition. Registration forms are available at any Mount Pleasant Recreation Department facility or online at www.townofmountpleasant.com. Pre-registration is $10 and will be available through Aug. 20. On-site registration will be 9-11 a.m. on the day of the event and cost $15. Participants with a U.S. Sailing number will receive a $5 discount on registration. A skippers' meeting will begin at 11 a.m. and races will commence at 12:30 p.m. For more information, contact Tina Carter at 849-2061 or tcarter@townofmountpleasant.com or visit www.townofmountpleasant.com.
