North Charleston police think self defense could have been the reason for a deadly shooting in the Highland Terrace neighborhood on Tuesday night.
Randy Ray, 51, died at Medical University Hospital at 10:36 p.m., less than an hour after being wounded, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Wofford said.
North Charleston police were dispatched to the scene on Highland Terrace Drive near where it passes under Interstate 26 shortly before 10 p.m. Officers arrested 22-year-old Corey Grant in the area, said Spencer Pryor, the department’s public information officer.
Witness descriptions of the shooting suggested that both men were armed, Pryor said. Grant told police that he was in fear for his life when he fired his gun and ran from the scene, according to a release.
