A Top Cop Competition Friday will raise money for a kidney transplant for a deputy’s wife.
It’s also a chance for an officer to win a fully paid trip for two to Atlantic City for the three days.
The wife of Dorchester County Deputy Stephen Hayes has been battling a rare kidney disorder and needs a transplant, according to the Sheriff’s Office. She also had to have her left arm amputated at the elbow. Hayes also has an autistic son who needs weekly medical care that is not covered by insurance.
The competition will raise money for the family’s medical bills. It will start at 8 a.m. Friday at the sheriff’s office on Deming Way in Summerville.
The competition is open to all officers certified in South Carolina. It includes a physical-agility course, a precision emergency response driving course, tactical firearms skills with duty weapon and a multiple-choice, general law-enforcement knowledge test.
The deadline to enter is Thursday. The entry fee is $20.
To enter, call Lt. Biddle at 412-4586.
