The Clamagore Veterans Association wants another year to raise $3 million to save the aging submarine from becoming a reef.

Group president Bob Dewar of Florida told members of Patriots Point Development Authority Friday they have raised close to $40,000 and they want to use that money to hire a professional fundraiser.

Dewar said the group canít raise enough money by the June deadline Patriots Point has imposed on the group, but he believes the effort has a better chance if given another year.

The association will not hire the professional fundraiser if Patriots Point decides not to give them a one-year extension, but the group needs to know the boardís decision as soon as possible.

Patriots Point is expected to let the group know by February if it will grant the extension.
