Mother, daughter die in I-26 crash

A North Charleston mother and her twin teenage daughters were trapped Monday afternoon when a cement truck landed on top of their car and cement poured inside, hardening while rescue workers tried to dig them out. "I've never seen anything like this before," said Peter Rogers, public information officer for the Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad. Authorities said the accident on Interstate 26 killed the mother and one of the 15-year-old sisters, who was driving the car.

Maybank Highway hardest hit by storm

WADMALAW ISLAND — Trees used to surround Vicky and Brent Griffith's home here, but on Monday scarcely a single one remained intact. The Griffiths' brick ranch house off Maybank Highway was ground zero for the furious storm that blew through the area Sunday. The storm spawned an EF2 tornado, said a National Weather Service preliminary assessment team.

Sales slow in spring season

While hundreds of homes in the Charleston region found buyers last month, thousands more are on the market, awaiting buyers. A total of 700 area homes sold in April, a nearly 30 percent decline compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors' Multiple Listing Service.

Wando sinks Wave, earns shot at repeat

SUMMERVILLE — The areas in front of the goals were like prime real estate during Monday's Lower State championship match at McKissick Field — only the truly elite were allowed in. Wando, the top-ranked team in the state, handed Summerville a 1-0 loss in the semifinals of the Class AAAA girls' soccer playoffs with a goal in stoppage time of the third overtime period.
